Urban Indian Coalition of Arizona (UICAZ)

The UICAZ is a community-driven coalition focused on educating and preventing substance use and abuse by adolescents dedicated to discussing, advising and collectively working together to create awareness and address issues within our community.

Our number one goal is to support our youth and assist them in making healthy choices that will prevent them from drinking while underage and educating them about the dangers of prescription drugs and marijuana abuse and to create awareness about suicide. We strive to work as a community to address these issues. Please join us – your voice is needed! It truly does take a village to make a difference. The coalition meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Phoenix Indian Center from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Gathering of Native Americans (GONA) is a community event that provides culturally specific substance abuse prevention information eliciting community healing through topics of historical and cultural trauma experienced over generations. Enjoyment for the entire family includes age appropriate programming along with breakfast, lunch and snacks.

safeTALK is a half-day alertness training to train participants to recognize the invitations sent out by people with thoughts of suicide and to take action by connecting them with life-saving intervention resources. Participants must be ages 15 or older. Check our events calendar and join us for the next safeTALK training workshop.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. Suicide touches many lives each year and leaves us wondering what we could have done to help. Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training is an evidence-based curriculum that teaches intervention skills in 5 modules (Prepare, Connect, Understand, Assist, and Network). Participants will be trained to recognize when someone may be at risk of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. This training is appropriate for people working directly with clients and/or customers. Check our events calendar and join us for the next 2-day ASIST training workshop.
